Construction workers tend to experience very high rates of health and work related injuries and, Emily Sparer a Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health student, while working for an environmental consulting firm, set out to devise a program to help this industry improve these conditions. Her idea is simple and effective with the basis of the program geared to the collection of safety data that managers have and then sharing that information with workers. While sharing safety data is typical between managers and insurance companies or government institutions, it is not commonly shared with the workers. Changing how safety information is shared by including the workers has resulted in fewer health related incidents and accidents, as well as improvements in workers moral – the workers appreciate knowing not only what is going wrong, but also what they are doing correctly.
